Your server dials out to Maude's relay, so the app reaches it instantly — even behind a firewall, on a LAN or a tailnet. SSH stays as the fallback.
End-to-end encrypted
Everything through the relay is encrypted on your server and decrypted on your phone. Each server has its own key; the relay only ever sees ciphertext.

Agents run on your hardware and sign in with the plans you already have. No API key resold to you, no usage metered on top.
Tested agent versions
Every agent version is qualified before servers get it, and downloads are checksum-verified. An update that breaks a CLI never reaches you.

Questions
What do I need to get started?
A server you can SSH into — a VPS, a home machine, or a container on your laptop — and an account for at least one agent. Maude installs everything else.
Can I use Claude Code on my phone?
Yes. Maude runs the real Claude Code CLI on your server, signed in with your Claude Pro or Max plan, and gives you the chat, permission prompts, files and git on iPhone, iPad and Android. Anthropic also offers Remote Control and cloud sessions in the Claude app; Maude is for when you want the session on a machine you own, running whether or not your laptop is on. Which servers work?
Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine, Fedora and friends) and macOS, on x86-64 or ARM. Hetzner, DigitalOcean, AWS, a Raspberry Pi on your desk — if it takes an SSH connection, it works. Password and key logins are both supported.
What's the cheapest server I can use?
Any small VPS with 2–4 GB of RAM works — roughly $4–8 a month at Hetzner, DigitalOcean or similar — or a machine you already own at home. Agents mostly wait on the network; your project's builds and tests decide how much you need. Our VPS guide for coding agents compares current prices.
Does it work with Codex on a Linux server?
Yes. Maude installs the Codex CLI on any Linux or macOS server you can SSH into and signs it in with your ChatGPT account using a device code, so you don't need a Mac or Windows machine running the desktop app. More on Codex in Maude.
How is this different from Claude Code Remote Control?
Remote Control is free with your Claude plan and needs the machine running claude to stay on. Maude runs sessions on your own server 24/7, works with five agents instead of one, and adds an inbox, files, git and a terminal. Do I need API keys?
Not usually. Claude Code signs in with your Claude subscription, Codex with your ChatGPT account, Grok Build and Antigravity with theirs — right from your phone. API keys are an option where an agent supports them.
Where does my code run?
On your server. Maude is a remote control: the agents, your repositories and their history live on your machine. What crosses the relay is end-to-end encrypted, and the relay can't read it.
What happens when I close the app?
The agents keep working. You get a notification when one finishes, fails, or needs your approval — and can approve straight from it.
Can I switch agents in the middle of a task?
Yes, while the session is idle. Maude hands the new agent a brief with the plan, the files touched, the git state and the recent conversation. Switch back later and the original agent resumes its own session. How it works: handing a task from one agent to another.
I use Maude 1. What changes?
Maude 2.0 is a free update to the same app. Your servers and Claude sessions carry over: the new daemon replaces the old one on first connect and imports your existing sessions.
Is Maude made by Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI or Google?
No. Maude is an independent app built by Pilot Dev and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
